Assignment USA

In the same way Americans face challenges moving and living/working overseas, foreign nationals and their families confront many of the same challenges moving to the USA. This program focuses attention on providing relevant information for the “expatriate” to help ease their adjustment to US American culture.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the concept of culture and how cultural differences can affect relationships and communication.

  • Clarify the essential customs, norms, practices and cultural expectations of doing business in the USA.

  • Identify the significant historical and geographical trends which have shaped the values of US Americans.

  • Recognize how US values such as Freedom, Individualism, Self-Reliance, Informality and Competition surface and drive the business environment and expected behaviors.

  • Identify relevant information of how to live and thrive in the city of assignment, such as where to shop, safety, banking, medical protocol, education issues, recreational opportunities and more.

  • Describe the process of “culture shock” and identify activities, attitudes and skills to successfully adjust and manage this normal phenomenon.
